Valkyrie Initiative is a nonprofit organization founded by and for survivors of sexual assault. It is a registered program of Heritage Behavioral Health Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3). Our mission is to guide survivors through the process of reclaiming their lives, power, and identities after trauma. Just as the Valkyries of myth guided warriors to the afterlife, we serve as compassionate guardians and fierce advocates, walking beside survivors as they heal and rebuild. Through trauma-informed care, community, education, and advocacy, we offer a sanctuary of strength, solidarity, and transformation.

Why the Valkyrie? The Valkyrie is a figure of profound strength and compassion, closely tied to Freyja
the Norse goddess of love, healing, and sovereignty. Freyja’s Valkyries were not just warriors but guides
escorting chosen souls to Fólkvangr, her sacred field of rest and renewal. Unlike the battlefields of
myth, Fólkvangr was a place of peace where the weary found solace and the wounded could heal.
We chose the Valkyrie because they represent what we stand for: a sisterhood of support,
the right to peace, and the unshakable belief that healing is not just possible, it is sacred.
Valkyries don't rescue. They honor, guide and empower fallen warriors.
